Claire Shoosmith
Eastbourne Studio Pottery CIC
2017 - present
Co-founder and director of Eastbourne Studio Pottery, a Community Interest Company offering classes for all abilities and ages, plus a range of taster sessions, talks and specialist workshops. For more experienced makers we offer open access studio membership and project mentoring for artists and designers.

I am one of five specialist tutors at the studio and lead on our community partnerships and fundraising. I have successfully applied for project grants from the Arts Council, Chalk Cliff Trust, Devonshire West Big Local, South East Creatives, Cultureshift, Locate East Sussex and The Duke of Devonshire's Charitable Trust. We are working with East Sussex County Council under their Public Health initiative to facilitate workshops for vulnerable people; to increase numeracy through their Multiply programme, and provide creative therapy for oncology patients.
I have devised and curated exhibitions for the studio and our community partners including 'A tree full of birds' at the Birley Centre and Let's Create Together: an exhibition of 500+ plates at Towner Eastbourne. The Mark of the Maker and the Maker's Mark took over the basement space at Volt Gallery turning it into an immersive, interactive installation that shone a light on the working processes of an unknown studio potter.
